Cruelty Free and What That Means | The Basic Code
Let’s talk about something that is really important: Cruelty free products. The topic can be pretty confusing and complicated. I am diving in today to tell you more about what it means, how to be sure what you are using is cruelty free and more. Let's jump right in!
What does cruelty free mean?
(of cosmetics or other commercial products) manufactured or developed by methods that do not involve experimentation on animals.
How do you know products you are using are really cruelty free?
The only way of knowing for sure if a company is cruelty free if they are a part of programs like the leaping bunny program. This is the best way of knowing a company is following the cruelty free standard.
Is Back to Basics in a program like Leaping Bunny?
Yes! We are leaping bunny approved. You can find us on their website here.
What is the Leaping Bunny standard?
The Standard is short for the Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals, a voluntary pledge that cosmetic, personal care, and/or household product companies make to clear animal testing from all stages of product development. The company's ingredient suppliers make the same pledge and the result is a product guaranteed to be 100 percent free of new animal testing. All Leaping Bunny companies must be open to independent audits, and commitments are renewed on an annual basis.
Is cruelty free the same as vegan?
No, Cruelty-free products are not always vegan. “Cruelty-free” refers to products that are not tested on animals, and “vegan” refers to products that do not contain any animal-derived ingredients. With that being said Back to Basics is cruelty free and vegan.
